The world of cloud computing is fluid. The Microsoft Cloud comes with almost limitless benefits: scalability, flexibility, and the ability to perform maintenance with almost no cost of interruption to productivity. However, the world of the cloud also brings with it complexity and a fast-paced nature. New features and functionalities are rolled out regularly, and many business owners find themselves struggling to harness those benefits and features properly and in an optimized fashion. Which new features will benefit them most, and which can they afford to disregard? This is when Office 365 expertise and managed services can benefit your organization for the long-term.
In order to optimize your Office 365 environment, it’s important to stay on top of the newly released features and upcoming changes that are available to you. Our team of Office 365 experts have highlighted some of this summer’s most interesting and useful new features.
Office 365 Secure Score
Businesses that function using Office 365 have countless tasks being carried out by employees every day, and it’s extremely beneficial to know which tools are being used most often, and which are used less often. The new Office 365 Secure Score monitors your active services and from there, adds a layer of visibility by scoring each of the services’ security set-up. If your organization is aligned with proper security for a service, your Secure Score for that service will be higher. These built-in security features help organizations make informed decisions on how to best protect their users and data.
Skype for Business Multi-Region Support
Another update for Skype for Business that may go unnoticed, but can add to call quality, is the new multi-region support which provides support for multinational organizations leveraging Skype for Business Online in Office 365. With this new update, users can be provisioned in the datacenter region nearest to their physical location. This improves quality by reducing latency, delivering high quality media, and help in keeping data in a local region.
One benefit to housing communication internally through Office 365 is the ability to customize your site with a sleek branding. Now, with a new Office 365 update, users can experience a fresh take on publishing content to your organization using SharePoint Online.
SharePoint communication sites are easy to use, easy to build, and look beautiful in order to increase internal engagement. It also features a responsive design to provide the same experience across all devices—desktop or mobile. Pre-built templates help your organization get started quickly, and provide common uses for internal communication: corporate news, events, updates, discussions, as well as image and video ability.
Unlike modern Team Sites, these are 100% standalone and not connected to Office 365 Groups. Catch up on everything involving SharePoint Communication Sites by watching a Microsoft overview training on the new product, released just this past June.
One Drive Files on Demand
You spoke, and Microsoft listened. The number one requested feature on Microsoft UserVoice—an online Microsoft discussion and suggestion platform—is slated to go live in Office 365 this fall. The new on-demand feature lets OneDrive pick out data from the cloud when it’s needed, without having to sync full files and folders to a device.
OneDrive Files on Demand allow you to view all your files in File Explorer will work just like every file on your device, whether they are house in OneDrive or not. New status icons in File Explorer make it easy to know whether your files are locally available or online files. OneDrive automation will allow OneDrive to automatically pull data from the cloud when you need it, and will only download files when you need them. For files that you need to access when you don’t have an internet connection, you can easily make files or folders always available by right-clicking and selecting Always keep on this device. The user-friendly icon will change according to the file’s availability and access.
