Great news for all you Office 365 users, as OneDrive for Business just got a whole lot better (or bigger I should say). Microsoft just announced that they will be increasing the storage available to each user from 25GB to 1TB. This is not the amount of storage you can add mind you, it’s the amount given to each user that does NOT count against your total storage pool. That’s an increase of 40X!
If you don’t have time to read the official announcement, here are a few notes, which might answer some questions you have:
- The rollout of theses changes is going to happen over the next few months for existing users, and new customers to Office 365 will not get it immediately either, and will also need to wait for the rollout.
- This only affects OneDrive for Business, not the consumer version of OneDrive.
- If you purchased additional storage previously and allocated it to a user’s OneDrive for Business pool, you will not be refunded, and all you can do is either remove that storage or allocate it elsewhere in SharePoint.
- There are no specific timelines released for the increase short of “over the next few months”.
So now is a better time than ever to start moving from your current user data storage system to OneDrive for Business.
