IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program announced New Signature as a 2013 Laureate. The annual award program honors visionary applications of information technology promoting positive social, economic and educational change—New Signature was specifically recognized in the Philanthropy category.
“Technology continues to play a pivotal role in transforming how business and society functions. For the past 25 years the Computerworld Honors Program has had the privilege of celebrating innovative IT achievements,” said John Amato, Vice President & Publisher, Computerworld. “Computerworld is honored to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the 2013 class of Laureates and to share their work. These projects demonstrate how IT can advance organizations’ ability to compete, innovate, communicate and prosper.”
“New Signature’s mission is to help close the opportunity divide by supporting community partners, such as Year Up, NFTE and Urban Alliance, that provide urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to imagine and realize their full potential by connecting them with greater education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities,” said Christopher Hertz, CEO, New Signature.
David Geevaratne, President, New Signature added, “We combine our expertise with Microsoft public cloud solutions, like Windows Azure, to help community partners skillfully and confidently deploy technology in new and innovative ways to empower youth to change the world. Internally, we don’t view this as a philanthropic or social responsibility initiative. Instead, we view this investment as a strategic initiative necessary to build a scalable and sustainable business. For example, through these initiatives we gain access to a population of very talented young men and women who are overlooked by the vast majority of companies. In an IT field that is constantly talent constrained access to this ‘hidden’ pool of talent that we are helping develop is an enormous competitive advantage. In addition, our support of these community partners is embraced by the entirety of the New Signature staff with every member engaged in our activities. This engagement directly translates to increased pride in employment at New Signature, leading to greater productivity, higher morale and higher retention rates. Put simply, investing in our youth is a core competitive advantage for New Signature that pays shot-term and long-term dividends.”
The Computerworld Honors Program recognized New Signature for our use of information technology to promote and advance the public welfare, benefit society and change the world for the better. The Program evaluated New Signature across a wide range of criteria, including that we:
- Provide a significant benefit to business or society.
- Create, enable, improve or expand business and job opportunities.
- Address a social or humanitarian need, either alleviating or resolving it.
- Demonstrate measurable results for its target beneficiaries.
- Develop new technology, or takes an existing technology and applies it in novel way, to meet a specific business, social or humanitarian need.
The Computerworld Honors Program award will be presented to New Signature at the Gala Evening and Awards Ceremony on June 3, 2013 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
