There is no question, moving IT operations to the cloud means big change for your IT department. Individual roles and responsibilities may change significantly – as may expectations for the department. Last month, our blog highlighted how New Signature’s Cloud Management Portal (CMP) aids IT managers with financial governance. But don’t stop there. Hoarding this information within the IT department represents a missed opportunity to educate your line-of-business managers and department heads. Help them help you! One easy way to get others in the loop is to subscribe individuals to the reports you create within the portal. Once you create a billing report, click “Subscribe” at the top of the report screen to open the email dialogue shown below. Enter the email address of your intended subscriber and then click “Add Subscriber”. That individual will receive an email from the CMP with your report. The frequency at which the report is sent matches the interval for your report data. So, a report with monthly data will be delivered monthly. Don’t forget to subscribe yourself to the report as well! You are not automatically subscribed after creating the report. For those users who like to dig into the details, go beyond sharing reports and grant them user rights within CMP. This gives them direct access to the data they need to make better financial decisions. Individuals assigned the “User” role can be granted access to specific Azure accounts and subscriptions and any reports they create will be specific to that data set. To take advantage of the user role, you will first go to Settings > Users/Groups and create a group. Access control is based on the group. Once the group is established users can be created and assigned to that group. Moving to the cloud represents a change for IT but the impact of that change on financial operations can be felt across the entire organization. Use the CMP to help manage that change and bring others up to speed on how the services they use impact the company’s finances.
