Starting today, CMS Consulting and Infrastructure Guardian (IG) are part of New Signature, the 2014 Microsoft US Partner of the Year. I am staying on as President of New Signature Canada, and so is the rest of the executive team. I couldn’t be more excited about the deal, and how it will help our customers transform their business with Azure and other Microsoft infrastructure solutions. We can now help them with the full stack of Microsoft technology.
Cloud computing has gained a lot of ground in in recent years. Discussions about the benefits of enterprise cloud solutions used to oscillate wildly between hype and hesitation. Now they have become serious ROI conversations. We are at a stage where there’s no doubt that cloud has arrived in the enterprise, and usage is only going up from here, with many new scenarios and options becoming rapidly available. Just take Microsoft’s Azure platform – the pace of new features being added is mind-blowing. We are talking updates within days or weeks, not years.
Most organizations have already integrated some form of cloud service or solution, for example email, CRM or file sharing solutions. On the infrastructure side we see a lot of test/dev scenarios and real traction with disaster recovery and backup. Now we’re starting to go beyond, with more and more IT organizations taking a serious look at moving core applications and infrastructure workloads into the cloud, and some even adopting a comprehensive “cloud-first” IT strategy.
The fact is, cloud infrastructure works really well in almost all IT scenarios, and you can save money and gain agility with it. We see it every day working with our customers. As we move towards a future where cloud – public, private and hybrid – is the default IT infrastructure, not the add-on, platforms like Microsoft Azure become both backbone and strategic business driver.
But cloud is only better with a smart approach. There are still many legacy systems, and implementing the proper blend of traditional, private and public cloud technology requires deep expertise, strong capabilities, comprehensive services, and a solid strategy to design, build, deploy, manage and govern your solutions. IT organizations will work with partners who know how to help them deliver value in complex and agile hybrid environments. New Signature will deliver these capabilities to customers across North America.
At CMS and IG, our focus on helping customers with IT infrastructure solutions has always been more about the ability to go deep rather than broad. We take pride in being the go-to professionals when our customers need help with a challenging infrastructure scenario or a new solution where the playbook has yet to be written.
It’s important to recognize that transitioning to a hybrid or fully cloud-based IT environment does not make the need for good design, deployment and operations services obsolete. On the contrary, technology capabilities, especially those delivered “as a Service”, are advancing at an ever-increasing pace, which makes the need for the right approach even more important. Design and deployment mistakes can lead to costly adjustments later on, and even stunt an organization’s growth. We have the right consultants with the right in-depth expertise to design for current and future business needs.
With several Microsoft MVP’s on staff, we love to help our customers push the envelope and become early adopters of new Microsoft infrastructure technologies. As part of New Signature, we will still be able to go deep, but at a much bigger scale with an even broader bench strength.
We’ve seen the benefits of cloud and IaaS in years of customer engagements. You can read more about it in my new eBook “Building Your Cloud Infrastructure with Azure”. Because we know where the roadblocks and pitfalls for cloud and hybrid infrastructure are, we were able to build a thriving Cloud Management as a Service business, including a Cloud Governance Portal that provides companies with transparency and control over subscriptions, usage and spending associated with their Azure enterprise account.
The Infrastructure Guardian service and portal are now part of the New Signature service portfolio, and we have the means to really build out Cloud Management as a Service with new features and functions, and take it to many more customers. By joining New Signature, we will be able to continue doing what we are doing best, and building on it at a North American scale with more resources and more capabilities.
New Signature is backed by a $35 million funding commitment from prominent venture capital firm Columbia Capital, with the specific intent to expand our Microsoft-focused services and geographic reach. Today’s announcement is the next step in this expansion, and I can’t wait for the CMS and IG teams to become part of the New Signature story.
The more I talked with New Signature CEO Jeff Tench, chairman Neil Hobbs, and founder and president Christopher Hertz, the more it became clear that we share the same vision, values and focus on customer experience. This is extremely important to me because it’s not just CMS and IG executives becoming part of New Signature, our whole team is coming with us.
We are all about growing and building our business together, as North America’s premier Microsoft partner.
