New Signature is proud to announce the launch of the Alliance for Broadband Competition, a site dedicated to raising public awareness about the state of future competition in the wireless and video industry.
When Verizon Wireless agreed to purchase SpectrumCo – a group of cable companies that includes Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks – last December, it raised widespread monopoly and anti-trust concerns. The proposal would cause a major consolidation in the ownership of wireless wavelengths, potentially stifling future innovation, discouraging new competition, and negatively affecting rates and services for consumers.
The deal is currently being reviewed by the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights, and by the Department of Justice. Now is the time for the public to weigh in.
The Alliance for Broadband Competition provides resources for the public, including:
- background information regarding the deal, gathered from a variety of resources,
- current news and press releases, and
- a petition for contacting congressional representatives.
The site is launched in conjunction with Glen Echo Group, a public relations firm in the DC area.
